Infrastructure improvements

Given the well deserved growth of BaseX, I was wondering if there are plans to improve bug/feature tracking capability, as well as the discussion system. For the first, I have used the popular JIRA system ( http://www.atlassian.com/). While I think it could use improvements, it's pretty powerful and I think it would be better than what exists now. They say that it's free to use for open source projects. I have found the GNU mailing list system to be cumbersome to use, since it is all email based, and the archives are not automatically searchable, nor grouped in any way by subject. There are a number of free discussion board systems, including at least one based on Java, and I think that would be a big improvement. I would be willing to help out with a transition to better tools if there is interest.

jax-rx outout parameter, omit-xml-declaration key...

...has the default value of yes, as noted at http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Serialization, the XQuery Serialization does not appear to recommend/enforce a default (http://www.w3.org/TR/xslt-xquery-serialization-30/#XML_OMIT-XML-DECLARATION), but the XForms spec does (http://www.w3.org/TR/xforms11/#submit) and the recommendation in XForms spec is the default value of false (=no), which is different from the default value of yes(=true) used by BaseX. While it (the way things are) is not a major (or minor) headache (for me), if it is a minor change and can be factored in in some future release, that would be useful (it would mean I have to set one less query param if I want the default behaviour of XForms). Thanks.

BaseX produces illegal XML

BaseX 6.5.1 *still* has issues with producing illegal XML. See http://top.cs.vt.edu/~gback/bx/b651-bug/ for a snapshot of the BaseXData directory with instructions on how to reproduce it. BaseX returns: <entry xmlns="http://libx.org/xml/libx2" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> which obviously is invalid XML. - Godmar

Hi Artur, I just found out this all comes down to a mistake in our XQuery Update documentation - I'm sorry to cause that confusion. The XQuery Update specification says this: If you have an expression like ... *'replace value of node A with B'* the expression *B* is evaluated with a text node constructor. That means the result of *B *is either a sequence of text nodes or an empty sequence. Considering your example the outcome is valid - it's the documentation which is wrong. It's simply not possible to replace the *value of* an element node (its descendants) with other elements. I'll take care of this inconsistency. Hope this clears things up, thanks for pointing that out! Wish - allow using clipboard also for shift+Delete control+Insert shift+Insert

Hi Working in GUI is nice, I only like using shift+Delete control+Insert shift+Insert shortcuts for working with clipboard and currently it does not work in XQuery window in BaseX GUI See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut,_copy,_and_paste#Common_keyboard_shortcuts I am working on MS Windows. BaseX6.5 - how to add documents into collection over wire (probably using ADD command)

Hi I need to insert documents into BaseX collection. As data are not always available directly as files and as sometime my server is remote to me, I need a method to add documents remotely. With older BaseX (I think BaseX 6.4) I was able to use add commend in the way add as doc1 <root/> This works now. But I am unable to insert anything, what has any attribute in this manner add as doc1 <root att="att"/> This keeps complaining and prints back help on the console. I am using basexclient.bat and Python API. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any advice. Jan

Probably a bug: replace value of node

Hi all, following the documentation on http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Update the instruction of: replace value of node /doc with <new-element/> on db: <doc> <node/> </doc> should result in: <doc> <new-element/> </doc> but the result is: <doc/>
