Hello, I've got 'Out of memory' error and corrupted database again, this time it's for 6.3 version. Steps: 1. Started server, started terminal client, checked there are no text and attribute indexes. 2. Started my Java application that runs several tests on database: querying, adding, removing. 3. Then I forgot to reopen terminal client and used the one that I opened in Step 1. 4. Run optimize command for the collection and got error. 5. Cannot open the collection any more as I'm getting 'Out of memory'. It's clear that I shouldn't have used the terminal client that I opened before execution of my Java application. But sometimes it's hard to remember. And it's completely unacceptable that these actions result in the corrupted database. You really should catch ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException everywhere in order to save database from being corrupted. Terminal client stacktrace: > optimize Possible bug? invalid collection name?

Using the GUI interface to BaseX 7.2, when I select Database / Open and Manage ..., I get a list of the databases I have built over the time I've been using BaseX. When I try to open the collection named MEP.bigbooks, though, I get an error box saying "Name 'MEP.bigbooks' is invalid." In the "Manage Databases" dialog box, the information about the collection appears normal and plausible (at least, the size is about what I expect, and so on). It's only when I try to open the collection that I run into the error. I get similar errors on other collections which have . in their name; I do not get errors when opening other collections built (as far as I can remember) at the same time from the same data, if their name does not include a full stop. When I try renaming the collection without the full stop, I get the same error message. When I try to issue the command ALTER DATABASE MEP.bigbooks MEPbigbooks from the server command area of the GUI, I get a short syntax summary in the Query Info area complaining about the syntax of the command. When I replace MEP.bigbooks with MEP\.bigbooks and "MEP.bigbooks", I also get syntax errors. If I close the GUI and just rename the directory within my BaseXData directory, the database appears to open normally. I think I have two questions: Q1 is just renaming the directory a safe way (assuming no server is currently working with the data) to rename a collection? Should I do the same for all the other collections I have that don't currently open? I assume that if the 7.2 GUI won't let me rename them, it also will have trouble deleting them, so a related question is: is just deleting a sub-directory of BaseXData a safe way to delete a collection? Q2 Did the rules for names of collections change? Or is there some other cause? Speaking for myself, I guess that as a user I haven't thought much about what characters should be allowed in collection names, but I may have assumed that if they are not unrestricted, they would be restricted to being legal NCNames. I do kind of like using dots in names, so you can count this as one vote for relaxing the naming rules at some convenient moment. xslt:transform, spaces and mixed content

Hi, I have an issue with spaces in mixed content, when applying the xslt:transform command. I have been working around it for months with a hack in my css that puts the spaces back as   on inline elements, yet I still haven't run upon a clue to help me resolve this for good the clean way. IN SUMMARY - The xslt applied to my xml outside the BaseX environment (Oxygen + Saxon) gets me right html content (with spaces for inline elements in mixed content) - The query, when it returns the XML file from BaseX, shows that the XML file still has its spaces. - When the xslt is applied to the XML file from BaseX (Using Saxon), with the BaseX XSLT module, spaces disappear around inline elements in mixed content. IN DETAILS I have mixed content in a file. Ex. <p>Text <i>italic</i> more text.</p>. What is the easiest approach to edit data in a browser and have that data stored as xml in basex

Hi, So I've got a client interested to create a dataset of music information such as artist, track name, album release year... and store that in XML. Non technical users would need to view and edit the music info in a web interface and the data would be stored in XML. I was looking at Typo3 which seems to be able to work with basex. I wonder what is the easiest approach to edit data in a browser and have that data stored as xml in basex? What are CMS solutions that work with basex? Is typo3 a good solution? Regards -- - Alex G. Issue with expath HTTP request and response

Hi all, I want to share my experience with HTTP module while posting to restxq. Consider this example, -------- import module namespace http='http://expath.org/ns/http-client'; let $req := <http:request method="GET" href="http://localhost:8984/restxq/example" status-only = "false" username = "admin" password = "admin" send-authorization="true"> </http:request> let $resp := http:send-request($req) return $resp ---------- run the same query with status-only="false" and status-only="true". the first one(status-only="false") gives exception while the second one(status-only="true") returns proper response header. This is making difficult to handle the response of some requests which MAY contain body data. suppose we want to return the content of the document, if exists, as response body or a standard 410 status. The request should obviously contain status-only = "false". we also tried handling response with the one below, but the issue does exists. <rest:response> <http:response status="410" reason="Gone"> </http:response> </rest:response> I have tried with other http client like Firefox Poster plug-in and it is returning expected response. HTML got changes after uploading into BaseX

Hi All, Sorry for flooding the basex mailing list :( . We have this very simple HTML for some testing purposes. And we upload it through basexgui (HTML file type). <html> <body> <h1>Hello world!</h1> <ul> <li>service</li> <li>advancedassociationquery</li> <ul> <li>service2</li> <li>advancedassociationquery2</li> </ul> </li> </body> </html> but when serve it to the browser we get back the following html response where the list is flattened. <html> <body> <ul> <li>service</li> <li>advancedassociationquery</li> </ul> <ul> <li>service2</li> <li>advancedassociationquery2</li> </ul> </body> </html> After validating we've seen that, according to W3, the STRICT HTML compliant form is the following: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head><title>A title</title></head> <body> <ul> <li>service</li> <li>advancedassociationquery</li> <li> <ul> <li>service2</li> <li>advancedassociationquery2</li> </ul> </li> </body> </html> But even after uploading this STRICT HTML through basexgui we got back the flattened version. Our need is to just store and render the HTML with out any further processing. Also the HTML is generated using a tool. The thing is that the STRICT HTML file is served correctly when uploaded through the REST interface of BaseX (Firefox Poster with PUT method) whereas the incorrect file is served the wrong way(flattened) even if it uploaded through the REST interface. Deploy BaseX 7.3 as a web application

Hi, we deployed BaseX 7.3 as web application in a tomcat7 cluster environment. The rest service is running fine in local mode, but we ve a security issue... We don't want that someone can modify the xml databases, so it must be readonly, but with no password protection. Is there a way to do this in local mode? Thanks in advance, jan

When running the basexhttp script I get the following error

Hi, When running the basexhttp script on ubuntu I get the following error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/basex/BaseXHTTP I don't have a problem running the BaseX73.jar in gui mode. XSD validation performance

Hi, I have encountered an performance issue while validating xml(5kb) against xsd's(12kb). It took nearly 30 seconds for the validation. As baseX is using java API's, we did the same validation using simple java. we noticed that the caching of schema object reduces the time significantly(from 30 seconds to 8 milli seconds.). Is there a place where we could configure to enable/diable caching of schema or it needs the code to be re-factored or is there a workaround? Thanks, Seenivasan
