GUI feature request "Add as import"

Hi, I often find myself adding module imports in the GUI and I wonder if the following suggestion might speed up that process. Add a new menu item to the filelist right click context menu "Add as import" when the file selection is a XQuery module. The action would be to add a line to the current edit window source with import module namespace {$prefix} = '{$namespace}' at {$path}; Where $prefix and $namespace} are read from the source of the selected file, and $path is calculated from the relative path from the edit file source to the selected filelist source. The line would be inserted at a suitable place in the prologue or at the current location if that is too tricky. /Andy

Performance and heavy load

Hi guys, I'm quite new to BaseX. I've read a bit already, but perhaps you can help so I can investigate further. We are having a performance problem with our BaseX server. We're running it on a VM, and hitting it from around 5 web servers. Under no stress, I get this timing from the log for a 1191 bytes file. 00:01:23.526 ww.aa.yy.xx:56312 admin REQUEST [PUT] http://basex.xxxxxx:8984/rest/PaymentLogs_1/WRP.BR-4273791-1_PaymentGateway… ww.aa.yy.xx:56312 admin 201 1 resource(s) replaced in 1401.17 ms. 1441.24 ms A call to /rest takes about 4-5 ms (it's called around once each 2 seconds, though it's not needed): 00:01:23.520 ww.aa.yy.zz:56312 admin REQUEST [GET] http://basex.xxxxxxxx:8984/rest00:01:23.524 ww.aa.yy.xx:56312 admin 200 4.67 ms Is the 1400 ms time normal for storing one xml file less than 2kb (storing a 10kb file took 1200 ms, so I'm not sure size mattered that much)? And also, when the load starts to get heavier, from 7 to 12 files per second, BaseX server quickly starts to get slower, then taking minutes to respond, until finally it starts giving errors about the database being currently opened by another process, and too many open files. Many connections remain in the CLOSE_WAIT state, and the server is no longer usable. Is it reasonable to expect to [PUT] more than 10 files per second, some of them taking more than 10kb? We're using it for logging, so that's a lot of xml files. If it's reasonable to use it that way, I'll dig more into optimizing it. Is anyone using it in a similar way? Thanks, Martín.

Slow query

Hello, I wonder if the attached query can be optimised. I'm attaching all relevant information. Basex 7.9, Debian, powerful server. This is just an example. The queries will be built based on a compilation of a search form. So reordering the conditions for having smaller subset right from the begging isn't relevant. Any help would be appreciated. 40 seconds are not acceptable. -- With kind regards, Menashè

Applying indexes

Hello, 1. In which cases the "applying index" phrase should I see in the query plan? I have an old query (the one I've sent here at 06/22/2015) where only for one condition I've seen "applying index", and even this one doesn't appear anymore using a newer (8.2.2) version of BaseX and a larger database. I do see the right properties of the db: Indexes Up-to-date: true TEXTINDEX: true ATTRINDEX: true 2. Only once a value which is mentioned in the query is found in the index, in case of "=" condition? 3. Always, in case of "<" or "<" condition, assuming the specific text/attribute has been indexed? 4. Everything I see as a reply to index:facets is indexed, right? -- With kind regards, Menashè

Hello, I don't know why I don't see anymore query log events like "admin OK QUERY" in the .logs folder. Not even when I use the -d flag. BaseX 8.2.2 -- With kind regards, Menashè

Returning REST Response From Updating Function

I'm trying to understand how to use db:output() in the context of a REST function that does a bunch of stuff that updates and then wants to return a result. I have my updating functions using db:output() to return XML elements that are log entries, which I have up to now then formatted as HTML for return by the Web app. However, there doesn't appear to be a way to get the stuff returned by db:output before it gets returned to the ultimate caller. Have I missed something? My REST-handling function is declared as %updating: declare %updating %rest:path("/repo/{$repo}/{$branch}/updateLinkManagementIndexes") Which I understand to be a requirement if the function itself calls any updating functions. I tried e.g.: let $result := f:myUpdatingFunction() return db:output(f:formatLogItems($result)) But that results in the "no updating functions" message on the variable assignment. Unknown error - BXCE001

Hi, I've been struggling with this error for quite a while now and still don't have a clue why it is raised. Caused by: javax.xml.xquery.XQException: BXCE001 - at net.xqj.basex.bin.b.<init>(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.a.a(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.d.a(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.E.a(Unknown Source) at net.xqj.basex.bin.H.executeQuery(Unknown Source) There is no text description for this. First I thought it was something related to memory, but now I don't think this is the reason. As you can see, I am using BaseX XQJ, and it is version 1.4. BaseX is 8.1. It seems that my application receives this exception a little bit (4 seconds) before server tries to send the response back. This is what I get from server side: 15:29:20.050 127.0.0.1:49514 admin REQUEST FULL[0] 5727205.52 ms 15:29:20.050 127.0.0.1:49514 admin ERROR Can't communicate with the server. 0.12 ms It is a complex query, and it takes a while to respond. Query plan: long printing

Hello, I have a query which is quite fast, but I see in the query plan (Using the client GUI) that the printing is very very slow, even when the number of hits is zero.
