multiple inserts/update/deletes in single transaction

Hi I’m trying to figure out whether batched transaction would work for basex, and I came across the RUN and EXECUTE command specified in http://files.basex.org/releases/8.4/BaseX84.pdf page 58-59. The document mentioned following in the summary section: RUN:Evaluates the contents of file as XQuery expression. If the file ends with the suffix .bxs, the file content will be evaluated as command script. This command can be used to run several commands in a single transaction EXECUTE: Evaluates the specified input as command script. This command can be used to run several commands in a single transaction. I’ve tried this myself For example, I’d like to know if I batch 2 inserts, if one fails, would both inserts get rollback. I’m using a simple .bxs (attached and also listed below for your convenience) and run the execute using GUI. OPEN test ADD TO embedded7.xml <root>embedded</root> ADD TO embedded8.xml <root>embedded CLOSE The second ADD (embedded8.xml) is not a valid xml format so I’m expecting it to fail, and rollback both files if any of them have already added. But after executing this script, I’m seeing embedded7.xml have been added. Would you be able to confirm if this is the expected behavior ? If so, is there anyway that I can batch multiple inserts and ensures that these batch of files can be committed at the same time, and rollback all together if any of the file has an error ? Static files not accessed ?

Hello dear friends Since we upgraded to 8.3 or 8.4, we have strange behaviours with static files. Replacing node sets in a large file

I need to perform a transformation that would be simple in XSLT, but the input is a file about 250 MBs in size. I'm wondering whether XQuery and BaseX in particular would be the most efficient way of doing it. I'm new to XQuery, and I've come up with a couple of ways to do this, but they turn out to be very time-consuming, so I'm sure I'm Doing It Wrong. Hoping to find out the proper way of doing this. The input consists of 2 sections. There are about 3600 page elements with this structure: <page> [misc page content...] <list> <unit> [misc unit content 1...] <partinfo> <number>54321</number> <manuf>A321</manuf> </partinfo> <partinfo> <number>12345</number> <manuf>B123</manuf> </partinfo> [misc unit content 2...] </unit> [multiple units...] </list> </page> Each unit can have 1 or 2 partinfo elements. The other section has about 82000 part elements like this: <part> <partinfo> <number>54321</number> <manuf>A321</manuf> </partinfo> [misc part content 1] </part> [...] <part> <partinfo> <number>12345</number> <manuf>B123</manuf> </partinfo> [misc part content 2] </part> I want to replace each unit/partinfo with the correpsonding part, like this: <page> [misc page content...] <list> <unit> [misc unit content 1...] <part> <partinfo> <number>54321</number> <manuf>A321</manuf> </partinfo> [misc part content 1] </part> <part> <partinfo> <number>12345</number> <manuf>B123</manuf> </partinfo> [misc part content 2] </part> [misc unit content 2...] </unit> [multiple units...] </list> </page> Is BaseX a good tool for this task? If so, how does one go about it? Finally, it would help to be able to output each page element in a separate file. HTML5 serialization and @required.

I created forms that use <input *id*=*"browse-to-zip"* *enctype*= *"multipart/form-data"* *name*=*"zip"* *required*=*"required"* *type*= *"file"*/> I was hoping that it would serialize to: <input id="browse-to-zip" enctype="multipart/form-data" name="zip" required type="file">, but I get <input id="browse-to-zip" enctype="multipart/form-data" name="zip" required="required" type="file">. Search algorithm used by BaseX

Good afternoon all, It's me again While writing my paper, I was wondering how BaseX (and/or XQuery)'s search algorithm actually works. I imagine each XML-structure is search through one by one, but what technique is used in this search? I'm looking for some terminology such as A*, IDA, D*, depth-first, breadth-first, top down, bottom up, etc. but I cannot find anything in your documentation. Can you enlighten me on the subject? And is the algorithm used specified by BaseX, or is it implied by XQuery? Kind regards Bram Vanroy

Namespace scoping in direct element constructor

The order of attributes, including namespace declaration attributes, in a direct element constructor is not significant. But while playing around I found that it makes a difference with BaseX for expressions that are embedded in an attribute. So these two constructors produce different results, but I think it should be the same: basex -q"<e xmlns='A'><e xmlns='B' a='{namespace-uri-for-prefix((), <e/>)}'/></e>" basex -q"<e xmlns='A'><e a='{namespace-uri-for-prefix((), <e/>)}' xmlns='B'/></e>" Tested on BaseX 8.4.1. searching for the nearest ancestor

Hi, While processing a XML-file with xquery I need to find the nearest ancestor that has a child-element with a certain ID-value( $refID). I found this solution [1] but I was wondering if also a solution is possible that makes use of the ancestor being a reverse-axis[ 2]. That way I could replace the [ last()]-predicate with a [1]-predicate, which I find more transparant. Also my gut-feeling tells me that would be a more efficient solution then the current one. db:create, language values

Hi, Is it possible to add the list of supported values in the doc for LANGUAGE at: http://docs.basex.org/wiki/Options#Indexing. LANGUAGE *Signature* LANGUAGE [lang] *Default* en *Summary* The specified language will influence the way how an input text will be tokenized. This option is mainly important if tokens are to be stemmed, or if the tokenization of a language differs from Western languages. A db can only be copied once...

Hi, Since a DB cannot be created dynamically from a restxq call, I'm trying to create some databases by copying an existing one (an empty DB with all the desired parameters). However, it seems that I am unable to create multiple instances from the same DB template. Is there a reason for this limit? I am providing a different target name for each, so technically there shouldn't be any duplicate writing. Any workaround to suggest? Beside the creation of multiple template DB source? file store question

Hi BaseX gurus, I noticed that if the resource is persisted in basex, there is a way to tell what type of the resource it is(db:content-type?). However, I’m wondering for new resources to be persisted, is there a way to determine ? Or mostly needs to rely on the application to determine which basex call to be make ? I’m seeing on the document that db:store is to persist binary database and use db:add for other documents. Does it mean that the caller really need to know the type of the resource, in order to determine which db function to call ? Thanks much for your help. Regards, -Genneva
