Yes, that's a problem specific to the mediocre Windows WebDAV clients.

The BaseX WebDAV implementation itself is pretty fast. For 12000
files, it should usually take around 20-50 ms to deliver all meta
data.
Personally, I use Total Commander (imho, the best Windows product ever
written) and its WebDAV plugin to connect to BaseX.
