International Workshop on Computational Sanskrit
We are pleased to announce a pioneering three-day International Workshop on Computational Sanskrit, hosted at the University of Jaffna from 25–27 July 2026. This initiative is a collaborative effort made possible through the generous support of the India-Sri
Lanka Foundation (ISLF).
Bridging Tradition and Technology
Sanskrit is a cornerstone of global knowledge, influencing philosophy, linguistics, and the deep cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. However, the intricate grammar and phonetic structures of original texts can often present barriers to modern researchers.
This workshop—the first of its kind in Sri Lanka—introduces modern
computational tools designed to simplify these complexities. Participants will gain hands-on experience with:
-
Digital Text Processing: Streamlining the engagement with classical literature.
-
Automated Analysis: Tools for sandhi splitting, morphological parsing, and compound analysis.
-
Machine Translation: Exploring Sanskrit-Tamil translation systems.
