Dear all,

The following was just published by the ESS:

A call for proposals to field a module of questions in Round 14 (2029/30) of the European Social Survey (ESS) is now open until Monday 27 April.

This open competition offers teams of researchers the chance to include up to 30 questions on a single academic area and/or policy concern within Europe.

In most ESS rounds, two rotating modules are selected via this open call for proposals to be fielded in the questionnaire. For Round 14, a special module has already been allocated to the European Values Study (EVS) as part of a wider cooperation between the two surveys. This will allow users of the ESS and EVS to combine data collected simultaneously, using the same methods for the first time. Therefore, for Round 14, only one rotating module will be selected via this call.

As such, applications should be limited to new modules based on topics that have not been covered in rotating modules selected for previous rounds.

Applications for new topics are invited from multi-national teams of 3-5 researchers based at institutions in at least three different ESS participating countries.

There is a two-stage application process for submitting Round 14 rotating module proposals – the deadline for Stage 1 applications is Monday 27 April 2026.

Following Stage 2 applications, two proposals will be chosen by our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) in November 2026.

The successful team will then be invited to work with our Core Scientific Team (CST) to develop the module into final questions from January 2027. All data collection will be self-completion (web and paper).

Round 14 data collection will take place from September 2029. The survey data collected will be made available for analysis in 2030 (more precise timings to be confirmed).
