Dear Basex team, it seems to me that there is a little bug in the FLWOR sort. Code: for $i in 1 to 3 for $j in ('a', 'b', 'c') order by $i descending return concat($i, $j) Expected output: 3a 3b 3c 2a 2b 2c 1a 1b 1c Actual output: 3c 3b 3a 2a 2b 2c 1c 1b 1a Using the latest stable snapshot. "XUDY0027 - Insert target must not be empty" with default namespaces

Hi, I'm working with latests BaseX distribution. The problem arises when I change from a specific namespace to a default namespace on the XML file. >From that moment on the insertion becomes messy, since some of them fail. Example: Here is the source XML that I insert into the newly created DataBase: <n:one xmlns:n="oneone"> <two /> </n:one> I execute then a xquery to insert a node into the empty tag "two": insert node <three/> into db:open("MyDB", "q471pa0lnovkfflso7ecsd6nj1.xml")/*:one/two In that case, I get a successful insertion: If I query the file (db:open("MyDB", "q471pa0lnovkfflso7ecsd6nj1.xml")/*:one) I get: <n:one xmlns:n="oneone"> <two> <three /> </two> </n:one> This is the normal behavior. The problem comes when I try to set that namespace as the default. So I create a new DataBase with the following XML: <one xmlns="oneone"> <two /> </one> When I try to execute the same xquery as before (insert node <three/> into db:open("MyDB", "q471pa0lnovkfflso7ecsd6nj1.xml")/*:one/two) I get the following error: rg.basex.core.BaseXException: Stopped at line 1, column 84: [XUDY0027] Insert target must not be empty I cannot understand then why the namespace affects the insertion this way :-/ I'm querying and insertion from a Java application by using JavaClient, although I guess this is not relevant here. Any help would be appreciated. XQuery for Scala

Like a lot of great software, it's tight, so tight in-fact it's 209 lines long! Oh and it's built on top of the XQJ interfaces, so it's vendor neutral. Hi Raj, I am responding to the mailinglist so that maybe other people can benefit from your question as well. This is not a BaseX bug, indeed it returns the correct result. The problem is with your query and the scope of your selection. The variable $i contains the whole document, so basically it does not iterate much. You are then filtering out each document, which does not have a country with the id f0_136. As the whole factbook.xml does have one such element, it is passed on and all the country names are returned. What you instead want to do is to iterate over each country, not over each document. Performance doc vs db

Hi, Looking to compare the performance of BaseX on a number of machines I have been running the Xmark queries [1]. Query 11 seems to be one that causes the most stress. I then compared the performance executing query 11 against an xml file on the filesystem compared with importing it into a database and timing the query against the database: * Running from a database 36sec * Running from a file 9secs The xml was generated using xmlgen /f 0.1 /o test.xml This does not seem right to me. limiting time or space resources in calls to xquery:eval() ?

I'm contemplating the construction of an interface for advanced or dedicated users of a database, with a text box in which they type their queries as XQuery modules. (Non-advanced and non-dedicated users will make do with a variety of pre-defined queries; this interface is intended to provide an open-ended query interface for the few users who will need it.) One issue that arises is security: any use of an eval() function opens the door to code injection attacks. For now, I'm inclined to think that BaseX's rule that xquery:eval() does not accept updating expressions suffices to protect the database from harm. Parsing the query and declining potentially harmful queries is also a possibility, if I can persuade myself I can distinguish harmful from harmless queries. (Comments and advice on this topic welcome, even though it's not the focus of this question.) A second issue is resource usage. Imagine a hostile user who writes a query designed to tie up the server for a long time and consume a lot of memory. Or imagine a non-hostile but naive user who unintentionally concocts an extremely expensive query. Is there a way to put a call to eval() (or any call to the BaseX HTTP server) into some kind of box and specify limits on the amount of CPU time, the amount of clock time, and/or the amount of storage to be available for its evaluation?
