Hello, I am trying XQuery Full-text on BaseX and I am a bit surprised by the full-text query speed: I have loaded the Shakespeare plays into a BaseX database, and created a full-text index. So far so good. Then I a tried a query like: //LINE[ . contains text "romeo juliet" all words] (4 hits) It takes about 1200 ms. I expected less than 100 ms. For example I tried Qizx and it takes less than 20 ms. Even eXist (old version, with a different syntax) was taking around 200 ms. I tried dropping the full-text index: that makes no difference! So clearly the FT index is not used. What should I do ? Thanks

How to Connect to BaseX in Java

Hi, I would like to know how to connect to BaseX using XQJ. I'm searching for the connection string (where i can put the login, password, port, etc.) to create a XQDataSource but I'm not finding it. Thansk in advance

Querying the Wikipedia XML dump

Hi, I set up a database in BaseX with the Wikipedia articles dump (all 25 GB of it). I'm able to access individual articles though the treemap display (by clicking on them), but I get null responses for every xpath query run, even really basic stuff like "//title." I'm sorry if this is a very obvious question; I'm a beginner to XML databases. Any ideas as the problem, or what to do to find out more? XQJQuery Example

Hi, I just downloaded BaseX and intend to try running the example code. For XQJQuery.java I am having problem. I get below error. UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file. I am trying to use the BaseX implementation of XQJ API only. I intend to explore the BaseX XML database related features later on.

Our project is developing Open Source procedures and tool/s to automate the gathering of metadata from evidence artefacts collected during digital forensic examinations and visualise the relationships between actors => objects using existing Knowledge Discovery and Social Network Analysis technique. We are currently using BaseX to store the gathered information and have been very impressed by its performance so far. So much so we have posted two videos of it in action on YouTube. Congrats for your efforts and well done product. I've worked with Berkeley dbxml, eXist, and Mark Logic. So I really appreciate the clean api, speed!, and compactness. Keep up the great work! Do you have roadmap somewhere? I'd like to get an idea where you are headed with development and if you could use any assistance. Best, Erik Peterson

[sorry for the previous message, my mistake] Hello Christian, thanks for your very fast reply (in middle of the night...) Indeed the query you gave me runs much faster. But... 1) that's not my query: I was using 'all words', and my query still runs without index. 2) I think that 'text() 'is not equivalent to '.'. For example I could not use text() here //SPEECH[ . contains text "romeo juliet" all words] By the way, this query just doesn't work (while it should return 42 hits). Never mind, I am sure you will fix that soon. Cheers. Database creation error on Windows Vista SP 2 64-bit

Hi there, I recently downloaded and tried to use BaseX 6 on Windows Vista SP 2 64-bit. I'm consistently experiencing an error message whenever I try to create a database (which seems to be necessary even when trying to open a database). I'm using BaseX in GUI mode. I've seen this behavior with both the BaseX6.exe version (initially) and the .jar as packaged in the BaseX6.zip archive (as a second test). BaseX server without X Window System on Linux

My Linux server doesn't have X. When I try to run the BaseX server, with the command: java -Xmx1024m -jar BaseX.jar org.basex.BaseXServer I get the following error: No X11 DISPLAY variable was set, but this program performed an operation which requires it. Can I run the server without X? Steve
