Professor / Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Sociology (with a focus on the construction of models of social consequences of individual decisions) The position belongs to the behavioral studies program at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS). It can be filled at either Assistant Professor or Full Professor level, depending on the qualification of the applicant. Successful candidates should possess a record of research and teaching accomplishments in the field of sociological model building and simulation. The basic-research focus of the position is the use of formal models or computer simulation to analyze social structures and processes as the products of individual actions. Such methods should be applied by the candidate to an area of sociological research such as the labor market, education, demography or organizations, with an emphasis on the use of empirical and statistical methods to validate the theories and models in question. The candidate should also demonstrate a strong interest in collaborative research and teaching with scientists from other disciplines. It is expected that candidates are willing to create an attractive course program for students in natural and engineering sciences within the scope of the compulsory electives in social sciences and humanities as well as the new Bachelor and Master courses of study. Courses at Master level may be taught in English. Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for an additional twoyear period and promotion to a permanent position. Research master "Sociology and Social Research" ICS-Utrecht and the Department of Sociology of Utrecht University offer the Master's program "Sociology and Social Research". You may know about the well-established and successful Ph.D training program of the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS). The selective research master's program covers two years, leads to an MSc degree, and prepares for subsequent Ph.D training in sociology or another social science discipline - such as Ph.D training at the ICS - and for positions as a researcher in non-university social science research institutes. The research master's program "Sociology and Social Research" offers structured and systematic training in theoretically and methodologically advanced research in the field of sociology and the social sciences in general. The target group of students consists of promising students with a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent period of three years of undergraduate study and qualifications that justify the expectation of successful completion of the program in due time. This includes students with a BA Sociology or Social Sciences, broadly conceived and including Economics, Political Sciences, Public Administration, Demography, and (Social) Psychology. The program also attract students with a background in, for example, mathematics, computer sciences, econometrics and statistics who have an interest in practical applications and who are intrigued by the meanwhile vast and fruitful applications of various branches of mathematics, computer sciences, etc. in social science theory and research, including data analysis. The program is completely taught in English. Students from outside the Netherlands are explicitly encouraged to apply. Admission to the program is selective. "Sociology and Social Research" is one of Utrecht University's Prestige master program and thus benefits from special funds of Utrecht University. For example, students of the program are eligible for Utrecht Excellence Scholarships. These scholarships are exclusively offered for students in Utrecht University Prestige master programs. Various other stipends as well as teaching and research assistantships are available for talented applicants. Also, funding is available for participation in summer schools outside the Netherlands (for example, Essex and Ann Arbor). 4th German Stata Users' Group Meeting

Announcement and Call for Papers We would like to announce the 4th German Stata Users' Group Meeting to be held at the University of Mannheim (http://www.uni-mannheim.de) on Friday, 31th March 2006. We would like to invite everybody from anywhere who is interested in using Stata to attend this meeting. Presentations are sought on topics that include: - user-written Stata programs, - case studies of research or teaching using Stata, - discussions of data management problems, - reviews of analytical issues, - surveys or critiques of Stata facilities in specific fields, etc. The conference language will be English due to the 'international' nature of the meeting and the participation of non-German guest speakers. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please submit an abstract (max 200 words) by email to one of the organizers. The deadline for submissions is 28th February 2006. Presentations should be about 20 min. or shorter. Für ihre Frühjahrstagung sucht die Sektion Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung in der DGS noch Referenten. Die Frühjahrstagung findet am 24. und 25. März 2006 statt und trägt den Titel "Individuen und soziale Kontexte: Theoretische Konzepte und empirische Analysen". Tagungsort ist das Gerhard Mercator Haus der Universität Duisburg-Essen am Standort Duisburg. Das gewählte Thema und der Ort stehen im Zusammenhang mit der Emeritierung von Prof. Dr. Hans J. Hummel. Alle Beiträge im Zusammenhang mit dem Tagungsthema sind willkommen, z.B. Netzwerkanalysen, Mehrebenenanalysen, spieltheoretische Modellierungen von Kontexteffekten, theoretische Beiträge zum Thema. Am Institut für Soziologie der Fakultät "Architektur Umwelt Gesellschaft" der TU Berlin ist für das Fachgebiet "Methoden soziologischer Forschung" folgende Stelle zu besetzen: Professor/in als Juniorprofessor/in BesGr. W 1 Kennziffer: VI-563 (Bewerbungsfristende 1.12.2005) Von der/dem zukünftigen Stelleninhaber/in wird die Vertretung des Fachgebietes im Rahmen des Diplomstudienganges "Soziologie technikwissenschaftlicher Richtung" bzw. einem konsekutiven Nochfolgestudiengang nach 2007 sowie die Gewährleistung von methodenbezogenen Studienanteilen im Diplomstudiengang "Stadt- und Regionalplanung" erwartet. In der Forschung ist vor allem die innovative Weiterentwicklung methodischer Konzepte zur empirischen Erforschung aktueller technikbezogener Probleme zu leisten. Dabei ist eine enge Kooperation mit den an der TU existierenden Forschungsgruppen erwünscht. Weiterhin ist die Kenntnis stadtsoziologischer Problemstellungen erwünscht. allgemeine Anforderungen: Einstellungsvoraussetzungen sind - neben den allgemeinen dienstrechtlichen Voraussetzungen - ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium, pädagogische Eignung für die akademische Lehre sowie die besondere Befähigung zu vertiefter selbständiger wissenschaftlicher Arbeit, die in der Regel durch eine herausragende und zügig abgeschlossene Promotion nachgewiesen wird. Sofern vor oder nach der Promotion eine Beschäftigung als wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in erfolgt ist, sollen Promotions- und Beschäftigungsphase zusammen nicht mehr als 6 Jahre betragen haben (Mutterschutz-, Erziehungs- bzw. Elternzeiten werden auf diese Frist nicht angerechnet). Anforderungen: Herausragende sozialwissenschaftliche Promotion, Lehr- und Forschungserfahrungen in den qualitativen und quantitativen Methoden sowie in einem oder mehreren empirischen Forschungsgebieten vorzugsweise im Bereich der Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung, einschließlich von Kenntnissen zumindest einer neueren Sozialtheorie. Die Beteiligung an der akademischen Selbstverwaltung wird als selbstverständlich vorausgesetzt und gehört zu den Dienstaufgaben. Die Einstellung erfolgt zunächst befristet auf 3 Jahre. Nach positiver Zwischenevaluation unter Einbeziehung von auswärtigen Gutachtern und auf Antrag der Fakultät VI unter Zugrundelegung der Evaluierungsergebnisse in Lehre und Forschung ist eine Verlängerung um weitere 3 Jahre vorgesehen; eine nochmalige Verlängerung ist ausgeschlossen. Im Fach Politikwissenschaft der Universität Hildesheim wird zum Sommersemester 2006 eine Stelle besetzt werden. Es handelt sich um eine BAT 2A, Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben. Das Qualifizierungsprofil: Der/die BewerberIn muss einerseits politikwissenschaftliche Methoden beherrschen, um sie zu lehren (in Zusammenarbeit mit Kollegen der Soziologie), hier auch Studierende betreuen (Beschreibung des Moduls im Anhang), andererseits Angebote in Politischer Bildung für allerdings einen kleinen Kreis von Studierenden machen. Dazu ist Schulerfahrung im Fach erforderlich. Die Stelle ist zunächst auf zwei Jahre befristet. Es ist keine Qualifizierungsstelle.
