stopping the basexhttp server

Hi: Under linux, I use the basexhttp script in the bin folder to start the BaseX server and Jetty HTTP server (for REST and Webdav) To stop the process, I then copied the file into basexhttpstop nd added the stop keyword to the last line: java -cp "$CP" $VM org.basex.api.BaseXHTTP "$@" stop However, this only seems to affect the BaseX server (Jetty continues to run and listen on port 8984). I can of course kill the process but would prefer for this to be available from the command line. Could this be adjusted? thanks *P

Ruby client causing java.net.SocketException on server

Good evening, I am using Ruby on Rails and BaseX for some hobby projects, and I have noticed the new Ruby client API + BaseX 7.0 causes java.net.SocketExceptions (see bottom of this message for complete error + stack trace) on the server. After inspecting the new client code, this seemed to have been caused by the new query iteration method which uses a cache. Reproducing this is easy; execute the QueryExample.rb script from the repository (make sure to first remove 'query.init', which is still in the example but has been removed from the API). It raises the Exception every single time for me. Note the query does seem to return the expected result so I could just ignore the Exception but that does not seem like the right thing to do :) On a side note, the 'if more()' in the 'next' method seems superfluous as query.next should only be called inside a 'while query.more' loop anyway. Effectively 'query.more' is now called twice in that loop before the cache is read. Kind regards, Daniël Knippers ps. Clustering/replicating?

All: We're looking into possibly building large scale infrastructure around BaseX and wondering if there is any information available around database replication (read replicas) and running BaseX in clusters? Also, when I submit a query to a BaseX server, is there a way to limit the amount of time/resources the query can comsume? For example, can I say 'fail this query if it takes more than 30 seconds or 1Gb of memory'? many thanks *P

Hi, I just installed basex for the first time and I am very impressed and really looking forward to using it. Thanks for making such a great tool available for free! I'm not really a developer so this might be an obvious question: using basex's http server, what is the best strategy for ajax-style communication between browser and db? I am aware of a few approaches: 1) direct httprequest to host:8984/my_db/somequery, but going across ports seems to violate "same origin policy" 2) using jsonp 3) calling from browser to server-script (like the php example in basex docs), which handles request to the db All responses are greatly appreciated, Colin

Performance of Basex 7.0 XQuery execution

Hi there, I am running relatively simply XQuery over a Basex database read in from about 100 MB of XML. While performance in general is fantastic, with most queries completing in a few seconds, I am getting worryingly slow performace on certain queries using XPath axes such as preceding-sibling. For example, the following simple (if a bit silly) query takes over 30 minutes to execute: /tns:pois/tns:poi[not(preceding-sibling::tns:poi)] For what it's worth, there are only about 100,000 instances of the <tns:poi> element. So the immediate question is whether this performance is to be expected. If not, what are the obvious things to look at in terms of performance tuning?
