Could not find that function in basex. Other xquery implementations seem to script this in xquery itself via declare function...

HTTP API DB access

Hi list, while debugging my application, I noticed that when I send a request to the HTTP API of basex, the request is then sent by basex to itself via a localhost connection. That is, the HTTP API part of basex sends a message to the BaseX native API through TCP. Now, I wonder, is this really necessary? After all, both reside in the same process, so going through the OS feels a bit wasteful here. I noticed that I can change this behaviour if I pass the "-l" flag to basexhttp ("local mode"), so the code to directly use the in-process DB obviously exists. I wonder why it can only be used in the local mode which entirely disables the "native" BaseX API? Kind regards, Ralf

BaseX 7.0 as WebDAV server - first tests

Hi all Thanks for great new version. I just want to share very first test of BaseX as WebDAV server. It works with BaseX version 7.0!!! 1. Started BaseX GUI 2. Imported directory with 12000 xml files as new database named jsdi 3. started basexhttp.bat 4. stopped BaseX GUI 5. went to browser to http://localhost:8984/webdav/ and nothing there found (but no error either) 6. Created new network place to show content of WebDAV repository (see instructions here <http://kb.iu.edu/data/araf.html#xp>) 7. Browsing new network place on Windows A bit slow, but there are 12000 files, so no surprise 8. Created new folder there named subdir and dragged-dropped there another 4 xml files (these files have other elements then original ones) 9. Opening BaseX GUI 10. Searching for the elements from new files - and they are found. My first feeling is - Impressive Jan *Ing. Thanks everyone for the kudos! I'd like to mention that the new release wouldn't have been possible without the great help our team, so... a big thank you, in particular, to: Dimitar, Leo, Rosi, Lukas, Michael, and Alex! In addition, we have now made it much easier to retrieve stable snapshots of the latest BaseX versions. The ZIP, EXE and JAR snapshots can be found at: http://files.basex.org/releases/latest/ In the past, we didn't offer Maven artifacts for BaseX snapshots; this has now been changed as well: http://files.basex.org/maven/org/basex/basex/ http://files.basex.org/maven/org/basex/basex-api/ Btw, the latest snapshot includes a small optimization that will speed up many calls to the XQuery fn:count() function by orders of magnitudes (this fix didn't make it into the official release anymore). Dear all, thanks everyone for your support! We are more than excited to announce BaseX 7.0 (a.k.a. the TEI Edition), the best version we have ever released! It includes an impressive bunch of new features: STORAGE: Files of any data type can now be stored in BaseX in their raw representation. This means that BaseX can now be used as a full-fledged storage system. Next, millions of documents can now be added faster than ever before. APIs: We have rewritten our HTTP services: Our REST implementation has been integrated much more tightly in the core system. It can be used to query XML data, retrieve binary resources, and send database commands. A new WebDAV API provides access to the database via your file system, oXygen and various other clients. The classical clients (available for 10 different programming languages) have been extended and sped up. XQUERY: Numerous modules have been added to process all kinds of data formats via XQuery: JSON documents can be parsed and serialized, SQL databases can be queried, XSLT cryptographics functions are available to encrypt data and use XML signatures. Our database module has been extended to facilitate the storage and modification of database resources. FULL-TEXT: We now offer tokenization and stemming support for 21 different natural languages, including Japanese (thanks to Toshio HIRAI!). Next, we have further optimized the internals of our retrieval features of BaseX. Wiki: "external" internal links

Hi basex developers, the wiki uses external links for internal URLs in some places, for example on the start/main page, for all the Category links. By "external" I mean links that are enclosed in single-brackets [] only, while the resources they link to are in the same wiki and could be referenced by double-brackets [[]]. This is confusing because external links get an icon to indicate they are, well, external - so I was surprised to end up in the same wiki after clicking them ;-) Is there a reason this was done, or just a mistake/copy-n-paste-problem? I could fix them as I see them, if that is desired. Kind regards, Ralf
